Painting Egrets at the lake in the solitude of a young day,
I study their watchful stillness among the reeds and the graceful
economy of motion they embody. It is clear why the Eastern tradition
of Tai Chi was patterned after them and why they have been a symbol
of longevity and good fortune.
From the Egrets I perceive an abiding quality of wisdom in their being,
a focused assurance that divine providence will yield their rightful sustenance.
By synchronizing with the essence of the Egret,
I begin to understand their
steadfast knowing of the infinite .
It is here that I discover the fully present,
moment by moment,
bliss of being---
The Secret of the Egret
